Douglas was a British motorcycle manufacturer from 1907–1957 and was owned by the Douglas family. Douglas motorcycles were especially known for their horizontally opposed twin cylinder engines and as manufacturers of speedway machines. The company also built a range of cars between 1913 and 1922. The S1 3 1/2hp model was developed into a production model with ‘square’ engine dimensions, overhead valves, shock absorbing devices, and a three speed gearbox with final chain drive.
